Benefits of CBD Oil for your Pet

Our pets are a part of the family.  When they’re sick, we’ll do almost anything to help them to feel better.  If your pet has been suffering long-term, you may feel that you have run out of options.  You may have heard about all the benefits that CBD oil has for humans, but what about CBD for pets?

WHAT IS CBD OIL AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE BODY?

CBD oil, also known as cannabidol, is a chemical known for its therapeutic effects that’s found in hemp oil.  The substance is known the help with the Endocannabinoid system, which is found in the brain and throughout the body.

This system contains two types of receptors, CB1 and CB2.

The CB1 receptor type is most often found in the body’s central nervous system, while the CB2 receptor type, is found only in peripheral tissues such as the spleen, heart, and endocrine glands.

These two receptor types work together to control body functions such as mood, appetite regulation, and pain.

This same endocannabinoid system that exists in humans also exists in cats, dogs, and other animals.

HOW DOES CBD OIL HELP?

Many illnesses that your pet experiences may be attributable to a suppressed Endocannabinoid system, which can be treated with CBD oil.  CBD oils has been found to be extremely beneficial in treating ailments such as pain and inflammation, anxiety, fearfulness, cancer, infections, along with other maladies.

While at the time of this writing, the American Veterinary Association has not taken an official stance on CBD for pets, research studies show the positive effects it’s had on treating animals.

HOW SHOULD I TREAT MY PET?

The first step you should take in treating your pet, is to work with your pet’s veterinarian to ensure that the CBD oil treatment won’t interfere with any other medications your pet might be receiving.

It is recommended to start with 1mg of CBD oil for each 10 pounds your pet weighs.

You will then want to monitor the effects of the oil on your pet for a few ours after giving the dosage to look for any negative effects.

As you learn how the drug affects your pet, you can gradually increase the dosage, if necessary, until your pet receives the optimal amount.

While giving your pet too much will not typically result in fatality, the most common side effects your furry friend might experience include increased appetite and drowsiness.

ADDITIONAL THINGS TO CONSIDER

While the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has become more widely accepted and legalized in certain states, it is still currently illegal in most states.

Secondly, even if it is considered to be legal in your state for adult treatment, you will want to be sure that it is legal to administer to your pet.

CBD for pets can be very beneficial in bringing relief to your furry family member.
